Compare LLC setup packages

If you have decided to form an LLC and want filing assistance, compare these providers. State filing fees, registered-agent services, and renewals may be separate. Filing directly with your state remains an option.

These are service categories to explore, not packages sold by HomeBase. Each named provider handles plan selection, payment, and service. Approved referral links may earn us a commission; unconfigured links are ordinary provider links.

Is an LLC the right next step?

A formation service helps with filing; it does not decide the right structure for your tax, licensing, or liability situation. A freelancer exploring an idea may not need to buy a formation package immediately. Review your state’s requirements and obtain professional advice where needed before committing to an entity.

How to plan LLC formation for a home business

  1. Choose the structure and filing jurisdiction. Check the rules where you operate. A cheap advertised filing package does not resolve registration obligations in other states.
  2. Check your name. Use the state’s official business-name search and naming rules before ordering branded materials.
  3. Separate the address roles. Confirm the mailing address, principal or operating address, and registered-agent requirements on the actual state form. Read our business-address guide before putting a mailbox address on a filing.
  4. Arrange a suitable registered agent. Review eligibility, availability, and the address that becomes public. A virtual mailbox does not automatically satisfy this role.
  5. File the formation documents. Compare direct filing with paid assistance. Verify every name, address, and selected add-on before submitting.
  6. Organize the next requirements. Review operating-agreement needs, tax IDs, licenses, banking, and recurring filing deadlines. Formation alone does not finish your setup.

Compare the total cost before checkout

What to collect from each formation quote
Cost or featureQuestion to ask
State filing feeIs this separate from the advertised service charge?
Agent serviceIs it optional, included initially, or billed separately at renewal?
ProcessingDoes an upgrade change the provider’s processing time, the state’s processing time, or both?
SubscriptionsWhich renew automatically, and how do you cancel?
Tax ID assistanceDo you need paid assistance? An EIN is available free directly from the IRS when eligible.

For example, compare a basic filing quote with a bundle by writing down the state fee, service fee, optional agent charge, and all recurring subscriptions. Only include features you expect to use. “Free formation” does not mean the entire setup has no cost.

Compare LegalZoom, Bizee, ZenBusiness, and Northwest

LegalZoom, ZenBusiness, Bizee, and Northwest are options to investigate, rather than a ranking or endorsement. Compare each checkout against filing directly with your state. Check the current package scope, support arrangements, cancellation rules, and renewal bill.

This is a general planning sequence. Requirements vary by state and circumstances; it is not individualized legal or tax advice.

About HomeBase

HomeBase helps US freelancers and solo home-business owners choose business mailing arrangements. We connect address-purpose guides, a setup checklist, and a worksheet using your quoted fees. Formation and insurance guides support the wider setup process. Our provider comparisons use published sources and do not claim hands-on testing.

Our checklist is a planning aid. State agencies, local authorities, financial institutions, and service providers determine their own requirements.

Your privacy

Your setup-finder answers stay in this browser session. The setup finder does not save your answers to a server. The optional contact form collects your name, email, topic, message, and email preferences so HomeBase can respond. In this local preview, inquiries are stored on this computer and no email is sent. The local preview records page views and tool or provider-link actions using an anonymous tab-session identifier. Questionnaire answers, costs, contact details, referral URLs, and IP addresses are not stored in these metrics. Local reporting honors the browser’s Do Not Track signal. The shared static cloud copy does not collect these metrics. No advertising cookies are used. We do not send contact submissions to mailbox providers.

Our hosting provider may process technical request information to serve and protect the site. Fonts load from Google Fonts. Provider websites have their own privacy and tracking policies.

HomeBase may earn a commission when you sign up through a qualifying affiliate link, at no additional cost to you. Links with approved tracking URLs may earn commissions; unconfigured links use ordinary provider pages.
